Water Quality in Albania and Kosovo: What You Need to Know

Tap water quality varies significantly throughout Albania and Kosovo. Understanding these differences is the first step towards choosing the right filtration system.

In Tirana and urban areas, water comes mainly from underground sources and reservoirs. The main problems include: high chlorine levels for disinfection; excess limescale that creates deposits in appliances; and occasionally, contamination from old pipes.

In coastal areas such as Durres, Vlora and Saranda, water may have higher mineral salt content due to proximity to the sea. This can affect taste and create additional problems for appliances.

In Kosovo, especially in Pristina and surrounding areas, water quality has seen considerable improvements in recent years. However, problems with limescale and sediments remain common.

Rural areas in both countries often rely on private wells or local sources, where quality may be less controlled. In these cases, water testing and proper filtration are especially important.

Our recommendation: before choosing a filtration system, it's good to do a water quality test. ALBUJI offers free consultations where we assess your specific needs and recommend the optimal solution based on water quality in your area.
